March 23, 1942 – Honeymoon

I’m less than 2 weeks out from officially launching this site and posting the letters from April 1942 to kick off the Dear Audrey Project. My plan is to do my best and not drive myself crazy. After all, I’m working a full-time job on the side. So this is a journey and I hope you’ll come along. Your feedback is welcome.

So less than 2 weeks until Leonard reports for duty as a Private in the Army. I can’t imagine what my Dad is going through. At this time, they’re living in a trailer by Hartford, Connecticut doing what married folks do. Sure he’s enjoying a honeymoon of sorts but he has to be nervous. Mom has to be nervous. I’d be nervous.

“Over there” the war is raging. By this day, March 23, 1942 the United States is sending planes to Russia to use against the Nazis.  80 years ago we were working together. huh. Interesting. To be continued.
