In 1942, the Boston Marathon, held on a Sunday – April 19th, was won in record time by a milkman from Medford – Bernard Joseph Smith. Imagine winning the marathon, having a coffee and cigarette then going back to work the next day. Here’s the story from the Boston Globe (newspapers.com):
