The end of the month is pay day for the military. Like everything else, it’s a lot of waiting in line. Then there’s a battery bill since the Army does not pay for some stuff. Like haircuts or laundry services. Or worse, they charge you for a haircut you never received.ย Not sure the pay raise to $42 per month is in effect yet so at least Leonard is getting $21. Just crazy. Meantime, Audrey is job hunting. I think she’s looking at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Conn. She will land a job as a receptionist of sorts. And while pay raises for civilians are frozen so are prices and rents so that’s a mixed blessing of sorts. Everyone is expected to do their part and according to Dad, it’s not going to last that long. At least that’s what he keeps saying in his letters.
Check out the front page from newspapers.com. Note that A.E.F. stands for the American Expeditionary Forces (A.E.F. or AEF) which started in WWI and continued for WWII.
