Dear Audrey Letters - 1950s
We’ll be working thru the 1940s for a while so this is a holding page for letters from the 1950s and the Korean War.
In a nutshell, Japan ruled all of Korea up until WWII ended and they surrendered to Allies in 1945. Russia and the United States divided Korea at the 38th parallel. By 1948, it became communist north and capitalist south. And by 1950, the north invaded the south starting a war. Conflict continued until 27 July 1953 when the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed. This agreement created the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) to separate North and South Korea. However, no peace treaty was ever signed – IT’S STILL NOT SIGNED TODAY!
We’ll cover this and see how it all relates. Stay tuned.
